The Initiative for Gender Equality and Sexual Reproductive Health (IGE-SRH) has successfully completed the “Being and Becoming Advocates Project 2.0,” aimed at empowering LBQTI individuals in Nigeria’s South-South and North-Central regions. This four-month initiative focused on enhancing advocacy, sexual reproductive health and rights (SRHR), and legal awareness among LBQTI rightsholders and healthcare facility heads.
Objectives and Impact
Our project set out to:
- Enhance the advocacy skills and SRHR knowledge of 30 LBQTI rightsholders.
- Improve understanding of the VAPP Act and SOGIESC among healthcare leaders in Akwa Ibom.
- Build IGE-SRH staff capacity in resource mobilization and fundraising.
- Empower LBQTI individuals to advocate for accessible health services.
We conducted a series of capacity-building workshops, stakeholder engagements, and monitoring activities that have significantly improved SRHR knowledge and advocacy skills among participants. These efforts have led to:
- Strengthened partnerships with healthcare facilities.
- Enhanced abilities of LBQTI individuals to make informed decisions and access essential services.
- Increased organizational capacity in fundraising and resource mobilization.
